Dzmitry Vasilyeu's Dimanasus Prophecy-THE DREAMS Film to be Screened at September 2008 New York Independent International Film and Video Festival

The New York Independent International Film & Video Festival News:

(New York, NY - 19 June 2008) - Belarusian filmmaker and producer Dzmitry Vasilyeu announced from his home in Minsk last week that he has been officially invited to attend the New York Independent International Film & Video Festival for the screening of his film, Dimanasus Prophecy-THE DREAMS.  The festival will be held in New York City, September 18th through the 25th.

The NYIIFVF was founded in 1993 and is recognized by the film and entertainment industry as one of the leading film events on the independent festival circuit. It was established to help underground, low-budget and non-mainstream Indie artists gain recognition for their artistic work.  The festival has proven to be a valuable experience for international
filmmakers as they get a chance to win awards and network with American buyers, distributors and members of the press.

The festival hosts film, music and art events in the two entertainment capitals of the United States: New York and Los Angeles, and hosts independent artists from around the world from countries like Australia, Brazil, Sweden, Kenya, Japan, Canada, France, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Mexico, Colombia, Russia, Germany, Spain, India, the U.K, and now Belarus. It is the largest Indie movie festival on the planet.

Dimanasus Prophecy is an independent movie project, about human trafficking in Eastern Europe. Although fictionalized, Dimanasus Prophecy is based upon a true love story between a young Belarusian guy and an American girl who unwittingly get sucked into the dark criminal world of human trafficking of women. It's a detective-action-comedy movie, and a raw, in-your-face portrayal of human nature's ugliest sides; about our potential to allow ourselves to be controlled by avarice that's lower than that of a vicious wild animal, and by very great cruelty insensitive to the pain and suffering of others.  Mr. Vasilyeu is still seeking men and women to cast for roles in his upcoming movie productions. He is also seeking individuals willing to volunteer their help, sponsors and investors.

Vasilyeu expressed his excitement for the recognition that his project has given to his home country, and to the cause of fighting against human-trafficking. He said, "I hope my project will help other people in the world learn more about the capacities of the Belarusian people, and about this terrible plague, human trafficking, that destroys the lives of our youth, and adds to the disintigration of our society.  I want my movie as well as my life, to make a contribution toward the alleviation of suffering, the increase of human understanding, and the sense that we're truly brothers and sisters living together on this beautiful 'blue marble' that we call Earth, that should be blessed by peace, happiness and prosperity for all of us."

Dimanasus Prophecy-THE DREAMS Movie Project: A New Movie About Human Trafficking in Belarus and Ukraine

(Minsk, Belarus - 23 February 2008) Young Belarusian movie-maker Dzmitry Alyaksandravich Vasilyeu, a resident of Minsk, Belarus, is working on the production of a movie called Dimanasus Prophecy about the tragic consequences of human trafficking. Vasilyeu, a graduate of Belarusian State University, said he began to write his story about human trafficking back in 2005. Says Vasilyeu:

"Human trafficking devastates the lives of young people. We need more international collaboration to stop it. Still, the majority of the people of the world don't even know that human slavery exists today."

"The movie has a surprising good ending, that is sure to challenge what we all think love is,"
says Vasilyeu.

"I hope my movie will grab the hearts of many people all over the world, revealing to them the truth about the young 'sex slaves' of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine - our children!"

In spring of 2004, Katya (not her real name), like thousands of other foreign exchange university students, was looking forward to the summer job placement that she and a friend had received in Virginia Beach, Va. When she and her friend Lena arrived at Dulles Airport after a long flight from Ukraine, they were relieved to be met by fellow countrymen who spoke Russian.

The two men, Alex Maksimenko and Michael Aronov, were holding signs with the girls’ names and greeted them by taking their bags and luggage. Charming and reassuring, Aronov informed the girls that .....

An Interview with Young Belarusian Movie-Maker, Dzmitry Vasilyeu

By Elena Shumarova, Chief Editor, Star Gossip Magazine

(Minsk, August 2007)

Belarusian girls now have the opportunity to participate in casting arranged in Minsk! Everybody knows that movie making is an inexpensive venture in Belarus, but not in Russia or HOLLYWOOD. That's why many Russian movie making companies visit Belarus to shoot their films. Now it seems that Belarusians and Russians are going to go to the United States to visit the American movie production company ''900 Frames'' (Hollywood, Los Angeles) to make a movie from Dzmitry Vasilyeu's movie project Dimanasus Prophecy.

Vasilyeu:

I began composing my music with a short videos a long time ago.  Not too long ago someone asked me if I could compose music for some movie.  That gave me an idea.  I thought, 'Why not make a real movie myself?'  I shared my idea of making a movie with some partners in USA and they liked it, so I began working on my movie project.

The story of the film centers around the life of a young guy from Belarus who wants to immigrate to America and get married with some rich American woman. However, on his way to realizing his dream he gets into trouble being suspected as a criminal involved in the crime of human trafficking.  But the story has the so-called 'happy-ending'.

It had to be a very modern 'mix' movie with combinations of drama and detective work, with lots of my own composed music woven through it, played on the guitar and piano.  It's is very possible that some famous Belarusian pop stars will be interested in participating in my movie project.

Shumarova:

So who are going to be the actresses in your movie?

Vasilyeu:

The main characters will be performed by American non-professional actresses, but the episode roles are reserved for Belarusian girls only!  In this connection the casting will be arranged to select twenty girls between the ages of 20 and 28.  It's important for all actresses to be non-professionals.  The casting is free of charge, however, the video and photo portfolio that we design for them, using special computer effects and computer graphics, will be sold to the girls as author intellectual property.  All activity in arranging the casting is in conformity with the laws and regulations of the Republic of Belarus.  Every girl will be required to sign a casting agreement.  Belarusian girls are very attractive, artistic and talented. Who knows?  Maybe one day one of them will become a Hollywood star...!
